School Council

At Grange Farm Primary School, we are very proud of the work of our School Council and the important role it plays in giving pupils a voice in school life.

There are two School Council representatives from each class, from Foundation through to Year 6. At the beginning of each academic year, every class holds a democratic election to choose two representatives who will serve on the School Council for the year.

The School Council meets at least once every half term to discuss issues and ideas that affect children across the school. Representatives take ideas and feedback from their classes to meetings, where they are discussed and considered. Outcomes and proposals are then shared with classes, ensuring that pupils have opportunities to contribute before final decisions are made.

Working Together Across the School

Our School Council is structured to reflect the different ages and stages of our pupils, ensuring that meetings are appropriate to their maturity and needs:

  • Foundation and Key Stage 1 pupils meet with, Miss Cail, a teacher from their phase.
  • Years 3 and 4 meet with Mrs Sweetman, a teacher from their phase.
  • Years 5 and 6 meet with Miss Gilpin, a teacher from their phase.

School Council leaders meet regularly with a member of the Senior Leadership Team to identify appropriate themes and consider how pupils' ideas can be taken forward and put into action.

Through our School Council, we aim to ensure that every child has the opportunity to have their voice heard and to contribute to decisions about the issues that matter most to them.
