Visits & Trips and School Meals

School Visits and Trips

We provide a rich variety of activities to enrich and inspire learning. Parents are invited to contribute towards the cost of these activities; each visit/trip is carefully evaluated in order that unreasonable demands are not made upon parents. A large proportion of the cost of visits and trips comes from the school budget.

Visits and visitors are a key part of our Learning Challenge Curriculum. Recently we have been to Yorvik Viking Centre, The Yorkshire Wildlife Park, York Museum, Harlow Carr Gardens and Leeds City Museum. Our amazing visitors have included the Young Shakespeare Company, Ian's Mobile Farm - and Nao the robot!

Our Year 6 pupils have an annual residential visit, usually in the Autumn Term, to Ingleborough Hall outdoor Education Centre. Team building activities, emotional awareness and personal development are a valuable part of this residential. Year 5 enjoy a three day residential to Malham Tarn Field Centre, developing geography and science skills and knowledge. Year 4 visit East Barnby Outdoor Centre for a two day residential, taking part in a range of exciting outdoor activities which can include den building, archery, exploring streams and learning about wild creatures.

School Meals Information

Children are able to concentrate and learn better when they have eaten a healthy, balanced lunch – school meals can be the simple solution.

Lunch Times
Lunches are cooked on the premises and we provide space for children bringing a packed lunch. The school lunches provided are of a very high standard and vegetarian and religious requirements are catered for.

Dinner money is payable in advance and should be sent to school each Monday in an envelope/purse marked with the child's class and name.
If at any time you wish to change from one type of lunch to another, it is necessary to inform the school, in writing, giving one week’s notice.

NEWS… from September 2014, school meals for ALL children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are completely FREE! This will provide a saving to families of £430 per year for each child.

In our school we serve 2 meal choices each day. Each meal includes a main course, vegetables and salad, pudding of the day or fruit or yoghurt and chilled water.

We use great quality produce:

  • Fresh vegetables and potatoes, locally when in season

  • UK farm assured chicken, beef and pork

  • Free range eggs from East Yorkshire

  • 100% salmon and white fish fillet from sustainable sources

  • Dolphin friendly tuna

  • Choice UK cheddar

  • Menus are designed to provide healthy, balanced meals which will be enjoyed by children

  • Menus meet the Government guidelines for school meals

  • All medical and religious diets can be catered

Our menus are sent out each week with our newsletters and you can see a copy of these on this site here.
