Growth Mindset

Grow your brain at Grange Farm!

Welcome to our growth mind-set page. We hope this will help you support positive attitudes towards learning and high self-esteem at home, just as we are doing in school.

What is a growth mind-set?

The term ‘growth mind-set’ refers to a way of thinking, learning and taking on challenges. A person with a growth mind-set is open to constructive criticism, takes feedback and uses it, takes on new challenges, pushes themselves outside of their comfort zone and shows resilience and perseverance.

Studies show that it is people with a growth mind-set (as opposed to a fixed mind-set) who achieve in life, are successful in all they do and are happy. Of course, this is exactly what we want for all our children.

"If you have a growth mind-set you persevere to complete challenges and build your confidence." Ethan Y5

"Having a growth mind-set will help you to go far in life and you will work hard to achieve your goals." Daniel and Cameron Y6

The ‘Grange Farm approach’

In September 2016 we re-launched the concept of growth mind- set to all children and can already see the positive impact it is having. Pupils have participated in a range of activities to learn more about it and try to display a growth mind-set in school (and at home). We have all learnt how our brains work and how new connections are formed when we try new things and practise them, over and over. We have learnt about famous and influential people who have succeeded due to having a growth mind-set and not giving up on their goal. We have had PSHE lessons and assemblies on growth mind-set but most importantly teachers and pupils have embraced the language and way of thinking that promotes using a growth mind-set in all lessons.
